The survey and conservation of bird populations in Luxembourg is one of natur&ëmwelt's main fields of activity. Bound by a convention to the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, the Centrale ornithologique is in charge of two working groups: field ornithology and bird ringing. By these means it coordinates various national monitoring programmes, such as the Common Bird Monitoring, the Rare Breeding Birds Survey or the International Waterbird Census or area-specific research.
