Freshwater pearl mussel

Given the complexity of its life cycle and ecological requirements, threats to the freshwater pearl mussel are numerous. Poor water quality and substrate as well as diminishing numbers of  brown trout (Salmo trutta fario) are the major problems. The LIFE-NATURE project of natur&ëmwelt Fondation Hëllef fir d'Natur aims to restore the mussel's habitat by finding solutions to these threats.
